Network coverage checker
Mobile that branches out
In early 2025 we expanded our network into more regional areas across Australia, giving you more bang for your bark! With more mobile network sites in regional areas, our national coverage increased from around 400,000 to 1,000,000 square kilometres.
Keeping you connected
Wifi calling
Sometimes when you're at home or work, walls or nearby buildings can interfere with your mobile coverage. Wifi calling could help keep you connected.
Approved devices
When you bring your own device to use with felix, you'll need to check it's an approved device and compatible with our network.
Frequently asked questions
What does the regional network expansion involve?
In early 2025 we doubled the size of our network coverage area by expanding into more regional areas across Australia. This means both felix customers who live in regional areas and felix customers who travel to regional areas can connect on our network in more places than ever before! With more mobile network sites in regional areas, our national coverage increased from around 400,000 to 1,000,000 square kilometres.
Why is there a difference between coverage displayed in the network coverage checker and my own experience?
Our coverage map uses advanced prediction tools to provide results that are accurate as possible based on the information we have available. We have not individually tested every location for coverage. This means there may be differences between predicted and actual coverage available. These differences are unavoidable due to the nature of radio-based mobile networks and the unlimited variations in environment at a specific location. This could be because of your device, how close you are to our nearest mobile tower, or how many people are using the network where you are. Additionally, geographic features such as hills and mountains, local building density, new development sites, building materials and physical structures can block mobile signals and impact mobile reception.
What is the difference between indoor and outdoor coverage?
The type of coverage you can expect can depend on whether you use your device indoors or outdoors.
Indoor coverage
Indoor coverage is highly variable, and the coverage checker aims to provide an indication of indoor coverage availability. Coverage levels can be reduced indoors due to higher mobile signal loss inside, compared with outside. Predicted indoor coverage factors in a building penetration loss model, however there may be instances where indoor coverage is predicted, but your device will not work. Things like urban density, building materials, physical structures, and window finishings can impact the level of coverage you might get indoors. Building basements, inside lifts, underground car parks and upper levels of very tall buildings are common places where you may experience less coverage.
Outdoor coverage
The coverage checker aims to provide an indication of outdoor coverage availability. Predicted outdoor coverage factors in the local environment of the area. However, because we have not individually tested every location, there may be instances where outdoor coverage is predicted but your device will not work. Things like natural landscapes, trees, topography and how the device is held can impact the level of coverage you might get outdoors.
Which network will my phone use?
Whether you will connect to the 5G or 4G network will depend on your device, location and type of use (calls, SMS or data). Your device will use the 4G network (if available) when you are not in a 5G coverage area or when 5G coverage is unavailable, and/or you don't have a 5G approved device and a plan with 5G access.
Additionally, how you use your device (calls, SMS or data) may also impact which network you use. For example, depending on your device, you may make calls using the 4G network, and use data on the 5G network, even in areas with 5G coverage and with a plan with 5G access.
What can I do if my device doesn't support 5G?
If your device doesn’t support 5G, you can still connect to our 4G network (if available). You can also consider upgrading to a 5G compatible device to access the 5G network in 5G coverage areas and you will also need a plan with 5G access.
I can only access 4G coverage in my area. When will 5G coverage be available to me?
felix’s SIM Only plans run on the Vodafone network. Vodafone is working to roll-out 5G coverage in selected areas across the most populated parts of Australia. While we continue to expand our 5G network, you can still connect to our 4G network (where available).
I’m having connection issues. How can I check for network outages?
You can find information on scheduled maintenance upgrades and outages in your local area by using our network status checker.
Do you still support 3G?
We closed our 3G network in early 2024. If you’re a customer reliant on the 3G network, you’ll need to upgrade to a device compatible with our 4G or 5G networks.
What is a speed cap and why does felix have them?
Our 25GB and 50GB plans have a speed cap of 150Mbps and our unlimited data plan has a cap of 40Mbps. A cap is the maximum speed for data to download to your device. The actual speeds experienced may vary depending on many factors such as device capability, location, network congestion at the time of use and network coverage. Speeds are capped to maintain a maximum data reliability and consistency on 4G and 5G.
My data is running slowly, what can I do?
Your data speed can be affected by a few things including your mobile plan type, device capabilities, location and obstructions, network congestion and coverage. If you’re on our 25GB or 50GB mobile plan and have used your data allowance for the month and don’t have any data in your data bank, your speed will slow to 1.5Mbps. You can always add an extra 10GB of data for $10 within the felix mobile app. Next, we recommend checking our coverage tracker to see what your experience should be like at your current location. If all looks good on the coverage tracker, you can check the network maintenance upgrade tracker to see if there are planned upgrades happening in your area that might be temporarily slowing your speed. If everything looks OK at your location, you can try the following steps: - If you have a physical SIM, turn off your phone, take it out and make sure it's clear of dust and sitting in the phone correctly, then pop it back in again and turn your phone on - Check that your WiFi is switched off - Check that your hotspot is switched off - Check that your data is set to come from 5G or 4G Auto or similar - Reset your phone's network settings from the Settings app on your phone. If all the above still doesn't seem to fix it, you can chat in with the team any day from the felix mobile app.
I am getting less than 40Mbps on the unlimited data plan, why?
On our Unlimited data mobile plan, you get speeds up to 40Mbps. The actual speeds you experience may vary depending on factors such as device capabilities, location, network congestion, network coverage and if you’re roaming.
Your Mbps can alter depending on the traffic around you trying to access the same connection.
If you’re tethering to another device, this may impact network performance to your device.
Can I cancel anytime?
You can cancel your felix plan at any time with no exit fees. Or, if you need a break, you can also pause your plan for up to 119 days, after which time your account will be suspended. To cancel, head to the felix mobile app and go to Settings > Phone & Service settings > Cancel my service > Yes, cancel my service. After cancelling, you'll still be able to use your plan until the end of the current billing cycle.
Can I trial felix to see if the network works for me?
We’re pretty sure you’ll love felix, but if you don’t, you can get your money back if you let us know within seven days of activating your service and we’ll refund you any charges in full.
If you’re a new customer and you’d like to take up our felix 7-day guarantee, reach out to us on live chat. See our felix 7-day guarantee terms here.
Terms and conditions
The predicted coverage results from the coverage checker should be taken as a guide only. While we try to ensure accuracy, we have not individually tested every location for coverage. This means there may be some differences between the predicted and actual coverage available. Factors such as building materials and physical structures (including but not limited to basements, lifts, underground car parks and window finishings), environmental and local conditions (including but not limited to natural landscapes, trees, and topography), new development sites, urban density, device and software, download source and network traffic may impact your experience. Your intended use (calls, SMS or data) and your specific device may determine whether you can access our 5G or 4G network (when available).
To access the 5G network, you will need a 5G-approved device and to be in a 5G coverage area with an eligible phone plan. When not in a 5G coverage area, or when 5G is unavailable, your 5G-approved device will use our 4G network (if available). If you do not have a 5G-approved device, you can access our 4G network (if available) with your eligible phone plan, when in a 4G coverage area.
If you’re using a VPN, this could prevent the network coverage checker from getting an accurate reading on your location, which may impact the accuracy of your results. We recommend turning off your VPN while using the network coverage checker.
Predicted network coverage is generally applicable for consumers.
