WiFi Calling + VoLTE
WiFi Calling and VoLTE are now available on felix mobile for an enhanced calling experience.
felix Wi-Fi Calling feature changes
From 1 December 2025, the following Apple iPhones will no longer support the felix Wi-Fi calling feature, including 000 calls without the relevant iOS software update or device change. This is important for safety reasons when 4G/5G coverage is unavailable and you have this feature switched on:
iPhone 11 or newer: please update to the latest iOS software (version 18.4 or higher) in your iPhone settings under General > Software Update
iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X: please update to the latest iOS software in your iPhone settings under General > Software Update
iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus and SE (2016) Gen 1: you should switch to a compatible device before 1 December 2025 to continue using the felix Wi-Fi Calling feature, including 000 calls. Standard calls on the felix 4G/5G network are not affected by this change.

What is VoLTE?
VoLTE is a feature available on most 4G compatible phones that allows you to make calls on the 4G network, meaning you can use 4G mobile data while on a call. Your phone will automatically make calls over the strongest signal available (VoLTE/4G or Wi-Fi Calling). VoLTE is available wherever there’s 4G coverage. Check out our coverage checker to see where 4G coverage is available.
What is WiFi Calling?
Wi-Fi Calling - also known as Voice Over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) - allows you to make and receive calls, MMS and SMS over a Wi-Fi network (in Australia). You can use this capability if you have a compatible device operating on the latest software, have turned on the Wi-Fi calling feature and you are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
This is super useful if you’re in an area with limited mobile coverage. Your phone will automatically make calls over the strongest signal available when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network and have the Wi-Fi Calling feature turned on.
How do I get VoLTE on my phone?
For most smart phones it will automatically be available if you have a compatible device and are in a 4G coverage area. If you cannot see it on your home screen (4G on an iPhone, VoLTE on an android) follow these steps:
Update your device with the latest software
Enable 4G Voice & Data (VoLTE) in your device settings
How do I switch on WiFi Calling?
If you’re using a compatible device operating on the latest software, Wi-Fi Calling may be automatically enabled. If not, see some device specific tips for turning it on below. Alternatively, please chat with your device manufacturer.
Apple (default on):
Go to Settings icon on Home screen
Tap Phone menu item
Tap Wi-Fi Calling
Switch the Wi-Fi Calling on this iPhone slider to “On”
Samsung (default on):
Go into Settings
Tap Connections
Tap Wi-Fi Calling
Select “ON” to enable Wi-Fi Calling
Can I use Wi-Fi Calling to make Emergency calls?
Yes, you can use Wi-Fi Calling to make emergency calls if there's no mobile network coverage. Here’s what you need to know:
Mobile network first: Your phone will try to use the felix mobile network first. If that doesn’t work, it will look for other mobile networks.
Wi-Fi calling as backup: If no mobile networks are available, your phone will use Wi-Fi Calling, if you have a compatible device with the latest software and are connected to a Wi-Fi network.
Check compatibility: Make sure your device supports emergency calls over Wi-Fi and you have Wi-Fi Calling turned on in your settings. Felix updates the list of compatible devices from time to time.
Download emergency+ app: This free app helps provide your location to emergency services using GPS.
Provide your location: When using Wi-Fi Calling, your location might not be automatically shared, so be ready to tell emergency services where you are.
Limitations: Wi-Fi Calling can’t receive National Emergency Warning System (NEWS) SMS warnings.
While you can make calls to emergency services (000) using Wi-Fi Calling if there is no mobile coverage available, we recommend using the mobile network if possible. This will provide a more accurate location to emergency services.
The list below applies to current Apple and Android devices purchased in Australia. If you either (a) purchased a device that is not part of this list (b) purchased your device overseas, or (c) purchased a Samsung, Sony or HTC device from another Australian telecommunication provider your device before 2017, your device may not be VoLTE compatible or Wi-Fi Calling compatible on our network. Make sure you check your device model and your tax invoice for country of purchase, as applicable, to determine if your device is VoLTE compatible and Wi-Fi Calling compatible.
felix may add or remove devices from the list from time to time, such as when software updates are no longer supported on older models. Please check your device is updated with the latest software available.
